Today’s flight has three beers that are the same style, and one beer that is different. Our assignment is to identify the beer that is different, then identify the style of the other three. And finally, if we succeed in all of that, we will try to identify the individual beers.
Number 1: This beer was yellow with a whitish haze and a nose of grapefruit and lemon. I tasted peach and grapefruit, with the “powdery” mouthfeel typical of dry hopping. We guessed this was a NEIPA style, and specifically You’ve Got A Friend In Me. We were correct on both counts. (I like the way this is going…)
Number 2: This beer had a very light haze, and a subtle nose. I tasted an initial sweetness, followed by a lingering pleasantly mild bitterness. I thought I detected hints of lime or lemon in the taste, leading me to guess this might be Jump In the Lime (wrong) or perhaps Kashmir (correct). Turns out that the flavour profile for cashmere hops includes “lemon and lime”, so I was getting the correct taste, if not always the correct guess.
Number 3: This beer had a thick yellow haze with peach, nectarine, and tropical fruits on the nose. I tasted peach and pineapple, and was confident this was dry hopped with a fairly high level of alcohol. I guessed it was another NEIPA and specifically, Walkin’ on Sunshine. We nailed it again.
Number 4: This beer had a yellowish haze with a hint of a dark tint. The nose reminded me of tropical fruits and lemon pie. The taste had stone fruits (peach) and tropical fruits. It had a full mouthfeel that definitely suggested dry hopping. We guessed this was another NEIPA, and thought it was Shooting Stars.
Another successful tasting at Brew Revolution.
